Cleaning is spiritual, it is a time of reflection, it is important to take the time when you clean to decompress - as moms it's hard for us to find that time to really create a quiet space to hear yourself think. We all understand that life happens, but there is also a standard that we all set for ourselves that make us proud of where we call home. Creating a clean space that reflects your heart and mind is easier than some would believe and we have a couple of tips to help you get started.
Do a heart check
There is a bible verse that is perfect for this situation, it reads, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Ps. 51:10) We couldn’t think of a better fitting verse to help us with the first step to creating a space that you can be proud of. In order to begin the process of decluttering your home, you have to address things that are causing you stress and anxiety. Someone once said that your physical space is a reflection of your mental space. If you want to live in an organized tidy place, you must first pinpoint the areas in your mental space that could use a little more care or organization. Tools like calendars and boundaries are a great way to help with creating the mental space that will trickle into your physical space. Once you have an idea of what needs organizing you’ll also have an understanding of what needs to go.
Get rid of things - like really
This goes for your mental space and physical space. A lot of times there are physical things that are connected to toxic memories or situations. If there are any of those, they should be the first to go. There’s no need to hold on to that sweater you don't wear and only keep because your ex-bestie gave it to you. You are only causing yourself pain and withholding freedom from yourself. Giving away things that are attached to memories and people that no longer serve you it a great way to remove hurt and sadness from your heart and mind as well. It also makes room for new, joyful memories to fill your home and heart with. With every item (or unnecessary obligation) you let go of you give yourself the opportunity to rediscover what you love physically and mentally.
Stay true to your heart, and the rest will come
Once you are able to identify the mental and physical clutter in your life, and then remove it, you will be able to see a newer version of yourself. It’s very important to remember to be kind to yourself during this time, it is easy to want to go back to what it comfortable, holding on to pain and unpleasant memories simply because you are used to them being there. Remember, you have made the commitment to a clean heart, mind, and space, love yourself enough to stick it out. Like we said before, we know life is going to happen, but that does not mean that you have to lose the new standard that you have created for yourself. That clutter is no more. Stay true to your new way of life and you’ll see that over time you have created a space that you love internally and externally.
